Here’s a look at some of the news that is being made, including a new call for firing the president, the Pentagon threatening the pope and the former attorney not testifying about the Epstein investigation.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker joined a growing number of lawmakers and conservative pundits in calling for president donald trump’s* removal from office in the wake of his graphic threats to bomb Iran.
“It’s past time,” Pritzker posted on social media. “The 25th Amendment must be invoked.”

A Pentagon official threatened the current pope for criticizing the military actions take by the president and secretary of defense by reminding the Vatican that a 14th century pope was attacked and killed by a French monarch.
The threat led Pope Leo — the first pontiff born in the United States — to reject the White House’s invitation to help celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

A study from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that at least 2.5 million low-income people lost SNAP benefits because of the president’s budget passed in July.
Hardest hit was Arizona, which saw 424,000 of its residents, or 47 percent, being kicked off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, sometimes called food stamps.
A spokesperson for the USDA, which administers the federal program, applauded the drop in SNAP participation.

Tremont, a town of 2,000 residents in Pennsylvania, located in a county in which 70 percent of the 2024 vote went for the current president, is pushing back on Department of Homeland Security plans to house 7,500 immigration detainees in a vacant warehouse.
“The resistance there has been largely divorced from the national debate around the president’s immigration policies. Instead, residents cite a raft of local concerns — water, sewer, health care and emergency response systems that could be overwhelmed.”
The federal government usually doesn’t pay local property taxes. Though the warehouse wasn’t being used, the previous owner was still paying taxes. Locals feel that hundreds of thousands of revenue dollars would be lost by having the government as a landlord.

To no one’s surprise, the Department of Justice said that former attorney general Pam Bondi won’t appear for her April 14 deposition before the House Oversight Committee to talk about the Epstein investigation for the sole reason that she is no longer the attorney general.
Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia said Bondi must testify whether or not she is the AG, and if she defies the subpoena, contempt charges will begin.
