Dark Day — 4 Years and Counting

By Michael Woyton

Harry Dunn, a former United States Capitol police officer who was on duty during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection riots, posted on social media Monday, “I don’t even have anything insightful to say today. I still can’t believe he won after his actions 4 years ago today.”

I don't even have anything insightful to say today. I still can't believe he won after his actions 4 years ago today.

Dunn was, of course, referring to the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist Donald Trump, who, unsurprisingly, is not planning a repeat of the actions taken four years ago today when Joe Biden’s Electoral College vote was set to be confirmed by Congress to be the 46th president of the U.S.

There is no need for another insurrection because Trump was satisfied with the election results this time around, i.e., he won so the election was valid.

Trump is, however, still saying that the people who stormed the Capitol Building in 2021 were peaceful and the events that led to several deaths and multiple injuries of uniformed officers could be called “a day of love.”

Georgia Congressman Mike Collins, a Republican, posted on the site formerly known as Twitter, remarkably adding a new twist to the lies about what really happened four years ago, that “On #ThisDayInHistory in 2021, thousands of peaceful grandmothers gathered in Washington, D.C., to take a self-guided, albeit unauthorized, tour of the U.S. Capitol building.”

Peaceful grandmothers?

Collins when on to state that the protesters were “peaceful” and that he was thankful Trump announced he would grant pardons to nonviolent defendants.

I wonder why he felt he had to say “nonviolent defendants” if the protesters were, as he describe them, “peaceful.”

It is beyond shameful that those in charge of the country on the Republican side of the aisle are so willing to continue to deny that a violent attempt was made to overthrow our government, and it was led by Trump who would not accept the fact that he lost an election.

I guess they were too busy running for their lives four years ago to remember that they were, indeed, running for their lives as the Capitol Building was being broken into and trashed.

Depending on who gets to write the history books, school children in the future will wonder how in hell Trump got re-elected.

I am also hoping they will also wonder why it took so long to correct our mistakes. If we actually do get to correct our mistakes.

January 6th, 2021 should have been the end of Donald Trump’s political career. For as long as I live, I will not understand how it wasn’t.
