Costco Says ‘Yes’ to Diversity

By Michael Woyton

I’m looking forward to my first Costco run in 2025 next week.

We have three of the mega-warehouse stores within driving distance and go to depending on what other tasks we need to accomplish in the area.

Now there’ another reason to look forward to — and appreciate — Costco: their corporate slap down of efforts to get rid of diversity.

The warehouse club’s board of directors recently rejected requests by some shareholders to remove its diversity, equity and inclusion program, calling it “illegal discrimination,” Newsweek reported.

The shareholders wanted a report on “the risks of maintaining DEI efforts” and the board said no by saying, “Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics.”

Costco bucked the trend of major moneymaking companies that were so scared of maga “boycotts” over DEI initiatives. Some of the ones who turned tail and ran are: Walmart, Boeing, Harley-Davidson, Ford and Tractor Supply.

Costco shopping without red hat in sight? Couldn't love Costco more.

The Costco board issued a statement that said it considered the proposal and “believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary.

“Our success at Costco Wholesale has been built on service to our critical stakeholders: employees, members, and suppliers.

“We welcome members from all walks of life and backgrounds. As our membership diversifies, we believe that serving it with a diverse group of employees enhances satisfaction.”

Of course, standing up for diversity was met with immediately disapproval by supporters of the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist on social media.

Newsweek quoted a self-described maga conservative who posted on the site formerly known as Twitter that the company should be boycotted. Another pro-Trumper said that if Costco didn’t do what their shareholders were demanding the maga-world would turn its attention toward them.

Listen, if it frees up a few parking spaces, then go for it.

Just remember, maga-world, you were complaining about the price of eggs.

In a sea of Walmarts, be a Costco.#DEI
